Sorry I haven't been as active as usual on here, I've just been busy with all types of things! However, I found some time and decided to make this week's Music Monday about another fellow bronco here at Cal Poly Pomona. His name is Nick Lopez, he is a first-year Music Industry Studies major here (just like myself) and is not only an awesome person, but an amazingly talented individual.
Nick Lopez is a singer-songwriter and recording artist who has worked with RCA, Sony, and much more, currently based in Los Angeles. His experience, though, isn't the only thing that's so great about him.. he's got a full length studio album that's honestly such a good piece of work. You can listen to the album here.
My favorite song happens to be "Has Been", a song with a great, catchy melody and also meaningful lyrics.

At the moment, my favorite songs are last week's Music Monday, but if I had to choose an updated 5 it would be:
- Restart by Sam Smith
- Find You by Zedd & Matthew Koma
- Boneless by Steve Aoki
- Anaconda by Nicki Minaj
- Blame by Calvin Harris & John Newman
2. What is the most played song in your iTunes?
The most played song on my iTunes is Applause by Lady Gaga, with 893 plays! I have since stopped using iTunes and really using Spotify. I'm sure that play count is in the 1000's by now :)
3. What song are you listening to right now?
At the moment, the song that's playing is Cool Kids by Echosmith.
4. What was the last album you bought?
Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour.
5. What was the last gig you went to?
I recently saw Courtney Act perform, but I'm not really sure if I would consider that a gig. The last concert I went to was Lady Gaga's artRAVE on August 1st at the MGM Grand.
6. What song can you not get out of your head?
At the moment, it's Sia's Chandelier. So random - I'm not really sure why, but that chorus always gets stuck in my head!
7. What song(s) do you listen to everyday?
It's seeming redundant at this point, but usually it's the most recent songs that have been added on my Spotify playlist.
8. What was the first album you ever bought?
The first album I ever purchased on my own was Lady Gaga's The Fame in the winter of 2008.

Streaming music has been a service available for quite some time now (Spotify was created in 2006 & iTunes Radio began streaming in 2013) and has slowly, but surely, grown to takeover the online music world as the years have gone by.
".. reports claim that by the end of 2014, 37m people around the world will be paying for streaming music, while 210m will be listening for free on advertising-supported services. It also warns that 45% of people who buy downloads are now also streaming music, and that so far." (Source)
It's been obvious that record sales have gone down, and it's almost clear the main reason why. People are no longer feeling the need to pay for individual singles (Priced at $1.29 on iTunes, $0.99 on Amazon... generally) or purchasing full physical albums in-store when they can pay a low-cost fee (usually around $8-$10) once a month and get unlimited music and plays, free of charge. Services like iTunes Radio, Pandora, and Spotify offer free streaming that plays with commercial interruptions, however, the commercials are nothing longer than a minute, usually, and are not that bad of a wait. It just makes more sense financially.

I've always loved this song by Beyonce, however, recently she performed at the MTV Video Music Awards to accept her MTV Vanguard award and my love for this song just rekindled. Her new album is amazing, I love essentially the entire album, and everything about this song is fun and exciting. If you listen to the entire song it's almost like there's two songs in one - making the song even better. If you've seen this song performed live it adds even more sensuality, I would definitely recommend taking some time to look it up!
Like I've mentioned on my other "What's On My Playlist" post, I absolutely love a song that makes me want to just go out, dance, and have a great time with my friends. It has this awesome Arabic(?) melody that's thrown in there that makes this song 100x better. It's what also makes the song unique and different sounding from any "Trap" or "Dance" song out there, and that's a huge plus considering they can start to all sound the same after a while. Definitely a great listen!
I am and have been for a long time now a HUGE Ed Sheeran fan. I remember when I would do my homework junior through high school year and listen to Ed Sheeran's "+" album from start to finish.. daily. His new album is also great, and though I haven't listened to it religiously there are several songs on there that stand out. "Don't" is definitely one of them, and it makes me happy that it is successful commercially. It's got a great little melody, amazing chorus, and verses that really showcase Ed's talent. He's incredible!
