Jeff Koons

1:35 PM

Hey guys! So I'd like to dedicate this week's Fashion Friday to Jeff Koons. He's not directly related to fashion, however, he is a world-reknown artist, fashion is an art, and therefore, it's close enough for me! Lately I've been fascinated by his work and I really think you should take some time to look at his amazing stuff. He's currently "the most expensive" living artist, and one of the most successful artists of our lifetime (aside from Warhol, of course).

I discovered Koons through Gaga (of course) but I was familiar with his work before Gaga began to work with him since his stuff has been displayed in very popular tourist cities and attractions. He's 59 years old and is originally from York, Pennsylvania. He began his art journey through the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and from there, began his massive rise to success - to this day, now he's worth $100 million (probably more by now).

I don't want to necessarily ramble about his life and his achievements, however, I really wanted to showcase his amazing work that I'm intrigued with.

The Orange Balloon Dog is one of Jeff Koons' many balloon animal creations that are formed with stainless steel. This specific creation was sold to an anonymous telephone bidder for $58.4 million, making it the "most expensive work by a living artist sold at auction"

More of Koons' stainless steel creations, The Balloon Swan, Balloon Monkey and the Balloon Rabbit.

Another piece by Koons, Tulips. This piece was sold for $33.7 Million to Steve Wynn, owner of the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas, NV. The piece is currently on display in the hotel.

Pop artist, Lady Gaga collaborated wih artist Jeff Koons to create the album cover for her 4th studio album, ARTPOP. She collaborated with Koons not only because she's been a fan of his work since she was little, but because he's a pop artist - molding pop culture and art.

Koons' sculpture which was used on Gaga's ARTPOP album cover (shown below) which was displayed at Gaga's album release party/event, artRAVE.
Koons created this porcelain sculpture laced with gold leaf in 1988 to depict the pop icon, Michael Jackson, with his pet chimpanzee, Bubbles.

This is Koons' piece, Puppy. It is a 43 foot topiary sculpture laced with a huge variety of flowers, structured with stainless steel.

Last, but not least, of what I want to showcase is Jeff Koons' Play-Doh which is now displayed in the Whitney Museum of American Art. It's made of 27 pieces, is 10 feet tall, and took 20 years to complete.

That's all for this week's Fashion Friday. I know it was a little bit of a stretch, but I hope you're fascinated by his work as much as I am.
