Cal Poly Pomona's Art Gallery

6:19 PM

For this week's Fashion Friday, I wanted to lean more towards the art side of this category. On Cal Poly Pomona's campus, there's this incredible art exhibit, the W. Keith and Janet Kelogg Art Gallery, that features exhibits of local artists, students, and in this case, works of faculty members of the Art Department on campus. In this post I wanted to feature the amazing works I saw.. they were so great I literally attended the gallery 3 times in a row. Sure, the gallery is not necessarily large, however, the quality of each piece was exceptional. I'm so excited to share these photos with you!

Anthony Acock - Untitled, 2014
This piece was totally my favorite piece. It took up an entire wall and it was honestly just so amazing to observe. Acock says that he has been doing graffiti for about two decades and it's evident. On the side of the piece are the cans that were used to produce the art and also one of his book/portfolios. Such an amazing design, I absolutely love it.

Ray Kampf - A History of the World in 1015/6 Musicals, May 2014
I loved this because it's humorous and has a story. It's essentially a timeline with a bunch of musicals and I spent a good 10 or so minutes looking at each illustration. The piece was a hybrid of sharpie illustration and computer generated design.

Melissa Flicker - 2014100291314B, 2014
This print is one of many in a series of amazing designs. It's monoprint, serigraph on paper, mounted on wood. This one specifically was my favorite because it had that band of color that contrasted nicely with the heavy black and white backdrop.

Alyssa Lang - Movie Quote Poster Series, 2013
What I love about this is series is that it's so simple, yet impactful. I love how it's a small, short, iconic quote form movies that most people will know and can relate to.

Ann Phong - 2014
Ann Phong's creations are truly one of a kind and just so incredible to look at. This is part of a collection of mixed media on wood. It incorporates paint, plastic bags, cans, paint, computer motherboards, and probably so much more.

Ann Phong - Angel, 2014
Just like the piece above, Phong used mixed media to create this. This is actually my favorite and honestly wish I could purchase this to own (though I'm sure I cannot afford this..). So amazing!
Babette Mayor - Water Bombs, 2014
This piece is from a series titled the "Transparent Killers" series. It's a mixed media installation and it's a commentary on pollution. Each "water bomb" is available for purchase for $50 and all proceeds are donated to the Plastic Pollution Coalition.

Barbara Thomason - View from City Hall Looking South (Night), 2013
What's so amazing about this painting is that.. it's a painting. It looks so incredibly real and from far away it's easy to believe it's simply a photograph. Thomason actually has a book titled "100 Not So Famous Views of L.A." which features a ton of paintings she's created that showcase views of Los Angeles areas from obscure locations. It's absolutely amazing and I'd certainly give it a look!
Deane Swick - RR/350/13, 2014
This is an acrylic panting on linen canvas. Seeing this piece in person is such an incredible experience because you can see the articulation and every little detail in it, including all the shiny details that reflect in the light. It's part of her "Recuperation & Recovery (RR)" series, a series she began to work on after she had to have a surgery that left her with a steel plate and eight pins in her left wrist and hand.
